Senior Accounting Clerk

Position Summary

The Town of Hudson is seeking a highly organized and detail-oriented Senior Accounting Clerk to play a key role in supporting the Finance Department’s daily operations. This position performs advanced clerical and technical accounting work, including processing financial transactions, maintaining accurate records, and assisting with reconciliations and reporting.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Process invoices from all departments, ensuring accuracy, proper approvals, and timely payment. Communicate with vendors to resolve issues, maintain vendor files (including W-9s), and monitor for duplicate or incorrect payments.
  • Assist with reconciling accounts payable, general ledger entries, credit card activity, petty cash, and postage. Monitor outstanding checks and support unclaimed property reporting in accordance with state requirements.
  • Process and track purchase orders, reconcile encumbrances, and assist departments with fiscal year deadlines to ensure accurate financial reporting and budget compliance.
  • Verify and process departmental deposits, enter daily transactions, coordinate bank deposits, and manage related documentation and approvals.
  • Prepare annual 1099 filings, maintain fixed asset records, and assist with year-end closeout and annual audit by providing accurate records and documentation.
  • Maintain organized financial filing systems, provide administrative support to the Finance Director, and assist with special projects and other Finance Department functions as needed.

Additional duties may be assigned consistent with the responsibilities of the position.

Minimum Qualifications

  • High School graduate (or certified equivalency) with a minimum of 5 years related experience, or a combined aggregate of related training, experience, and education.
  • Prior municipal experience is desirable, though not required.
  • Possess excellent oral and written communication, interpersonal skills, and organizational skills.
  • Must undergo and pass a background check and credit check
  • Must complete a probationary period of 6 months.

Working Conditions

Work is performed primarily in a standard office setting, requiring prolonged periods of sitting, frequent computer use, and regular interaction with financial software systems. The position demands sustained concentration, accuracy, and the ability to meet strict deadlines, particularly during peak periods such as fiscal year-end, audits, and reporting cycles. Occasional lifting of record boxes may be required.

 

Compensation and Benefits

Minimum starting wage of $26.00 per hour; salary commensurate with qualifications and experience. This is a union position covered under the Collective Bargaining Agreement (2025–2029) with Teamsters Local 633, Hudson Support Staff.
