Cemetery Trustees

Blodgett Cemetery headstones

Town Owned Cemeteries

The Hudson Cemetery Trustees are responsible for the five Town-owned cemeteries:

  • Ford Cemetery:  (1735-1966), Musquash Rd.
  • Blodgett Cemetery:  (1749-1982), Pelham Rd.
  • Old Hudson Center Cemetery:  (1778-1850), Central St. & Kimball Hill Rd.
  • Senter Cemetery:  (1759-1907), Old Derry Rd.
  • Sunnyside Cemetery, 98 Central Street
  • Poor Farm Cemetery (also know as Cemetery of the Unknown):  (1828-1870), Twin Meadow Dr.

All are closed to further burials. It is the duty of the Trustees to ensure the cemeteries are cared for with lawn and grave maintenance, head stone care, accurately kept records of known graves, as well as other duties.

The Trustees of the Trust Funds are responsible for the money given for perpetual care, not the Cemetery Trustees.

Tasks of the Trustees include an annual organizational meeting and tour of all five town cemeteries to see how they survived the winter, assess stone damage and the need for repair, and maintenance of records.

Projects include the purchase of the Poor Farm Cemetery in 2006, including fencing and installation of a monument on the site. All Town cemeteries were mapped to include head stone locations to scale and GPS references. The next project is to update the records with the inscriptions on each headstone before they are lost to the weather forever.

Should a private Cemetery fall into neglect, it would be the responsibility of the Trustees to acquire that cemetery and protect it for posterity.
