Transfer Station Hours & Rules
Please see 2025 Solid Waste & Recycling brochure for exact dates (link below). Passes are required to dispose of solid waste, but not for yard waste, cardboard or metal. In case of inclement weather, please check www.hudsonnh.gov for transfer station schedule changes.
Transfer Station passes can be obtained at the Public Works Department only during normal working hours.
Transfer Station passes will no longer be issued to residents on clean up days. All residents must have their Transfer Station pass in hand in order to enter the Transfer Station starting May 8, 2021. For additional information please call the Public Works Department at 886-6018.
Yard Waste Hours
The Hudson Transfer Station is open from April through the end of November every Saturday from 8 a.m. until noon for leaf and yard waste, cardboard and metal disposal only. Passes are not required for yard waste, cardboard or metal.
West Road Transfer Station
Hudson residents wishing to dispose of items at the West Road Transfer Station will abide by the following rules (in effect since January 1, 2012):
- Each residence serviced by curbside collection will be entitled to three clean up day passes per calendar year.
- Passes are valid for that calendar year for which they are issued. All passes will expire on December 31st of every year.
- Passes must be obtained at the Public Works Department, at 2 Constitution Dr., during normal business hours (M-Thu 6:00am-4:00pm).
- Residents will be required to show a valid picture ID to be issued passes for their address. The address will be prominently displayed on the pass and is valid for that address only.
- A valid picture ID will be required on the clean-up day to match to the pass.
- A pass will be required to dispose of any acceptable items per visit, NOT PER DAY.
- Items that do not require a pass: leaf and yard waste, metal that can be recycled and bulk cardboard. These items can be dropped off as often as necessary during clean up days.
The Hudson Transfer Station is located off West Rd., on Old Landfill Rd., Hudson, NH.
Directions: Heading north on Route 102, take a left onto West Rd. and then left onto Old Landfill Rd. Go to the end to enter the transfer station during normal business hours.
Transfer Station Pass FAQ’s
Q: How many passes are we allowed?
A: Each legal residence in Hudson is entitled to three free passes per calendar year. Passes expire on December 31st—each year.
Q: Is one pass good for the whole day?
A: NO. One pass is good for one load.
Q: What size load is the pass good for?
A: A one-ton dump truck or smaller, a small (U-Haul) moving van, or a trailer 12 feet in length or less. A truck hauling a trailer, with both the bed and trailer filled, will be two passes. A trailer longer than twelve feet will be considered two passes.
Q: Are commercial vehicles allowed?
A: NO. The transfer station is for residential use only. Under extenuating circumstances, and with a prior agreement ahead of time, the Public Works Director, or their appointee, may authorize the use of certain commercial vehicles, for residential purposes only, at the transfer station.
Q: What can I bring to the transfer station with these passes?
A: Passes are used to throw away household items, construction and demolition materials, and outdoor items.
Q: How do I get passes?
A: All passes can be picked up at the Department of Public Works offices during normal business hours. A valid drivers license, proof of residency, or proof of ownership is required when picking up passes.
Q: Do I need a pass to dispose of yard waste?
A: NO. Yard waste, brush, cardboard, metal, concrete, brick, pavers, and dirt may be disposed of at the transfer station with proof of residency only.
Q: What if three passes aren’t enough for my household?
A: Three passes are generally enough for most households, especially if you sort out the items that you do not need passes for (cardboard, metal, clean unpainted wood, concrete, bricks, pavers, leaves, brush and yard waste), but if you do find that you still need more, each residence is allowed to purchase up to three additional passes for $30.00 each. These passes also expire on December 31st. each year.
Q: Can I dispose of mattresses with these passes?
A: NO. Mattresses and box springs require a special pass (including sleeper sofas if the mattress is still in it). The fee is $35.00 per item, paid in advance, by personal check ONLY, at the Department of Public Works offices during normal business hours.
Q: Can I bring refrigerators to the transfer station?
A: NO. We do not accept any appliances that contain refrigerant. We also do not accept propane tanks, TV’s, computer monitors, electronics, batteries, tires or used oil.
Q: What if I have bulky items to dispose of but my vehicle isn’t big enough?
A: Casella, our solid waste contractor, offers curbside pickup of these items for a fee. Call Casella at 1-800-227-3552 to schedule a curbside pickup of bulky items, appliances, appliances containing refrigerant, TV’s, and monitors.
Q: Can I bring old outdoor, motorized equipment to the transfer station?
A: YES. As long as any gas and oil has been removed first. This will be checked while the equipment is still on your vehicle and you will not be allowed to offload if the equipment is found to still have gas and oil in it.
