The Town of Hudson, NH Fire Department's Inspectional Services Division is now accepting applications for the following position:

FULL-TIME BUILDING INSPECTOR

The Building Inspector conducts thorough plan reviews and inspections to ensure compliance with all state adopted building and fire codes and all applicable state laws, as well as providing guidance to the public on codes and regulations.  Additionally, this role requires collaboration with town departments and stakeholders to maintain safety standards and process necessary permits. 

Key Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Plan Reviews and Inspections: Conduct reviews of plans and specifications for construction projects to ensure compliance with state adopted building and fire codes and applicable laws.
  • Public Assistance: Guide the public on codes and regulations, simplifying complex information.
  • Collaboration: Work with town departments to ensure construction compliance and fee processing.
  • On-Site Inspections: Perform inspections to verify code compliance and address violations.
  • Building Compliance: Inspect existing buildings for code compliance.
  • Violation Investigation: Investigate complaints, determine actions for non-compliance, and prepare reports.
  • Record Maintenance: Maintain accurate department records.

Knowledge and Skills which are beneficial for this position.

  • Legal Knowledge: Understand building and fire prevention laws and codes.
  • Fire Safety Expertise: Knowledge of fire prevention and safety.
  • Plan Reading: Ability to interpret building plans.
  • Problem Resolution: Skills in explaining resolutions for non-conforming plans or drawings.
  • Communication: Explain code requirements effectively and possess strong verbal and written skills.

This role requires strong organizational, analytical, and communication skills to ensure compliance and safety in construction and fire prevention.

Hourly Pay Range: $29.00 to $31.07 depending on qualifications and experience.

Work schedule is Monday through Friday, 8AM to 4:30PM.  Office located within Town Hall located at 12 School Street.
