Mosquito Control Program

Update > September 9, 2025:   Jamestown Canyon virus detected in two mosquito's.

The New Hampshire Department of Health and Human Services has detected Jamestown Canyon Virus (JCV) in two (2) novel mosquito batches (mosquitoes: Coquillettidia perturbans & Anopheles punctipennis) collected from Hudson, NH on 8/20. These are the first two detections of JCV in Hudson during the 2025 mosquito season, but there have been several other detections in other municipalities in the state in the prior months. Following these detections, the arboviral risk level for Hudson will be updated from baseline to moderate for the remainder of the season (indicating that there were detections of a mosquito borne pathogen at more than one-location).  The mosquito's were located on Speare Road and Sir Issac Way.

Mosquito activity is expected to lower due to the cooler temperatures at night and dry conditions.  At this time there is no need to take further action other than to protect yourself.  Limit activity after dusk, wear long sleeves, long pants and use bug repellent with deet.

At this time, DHHS advises everyone to educate themselves on mosquito bite prevention and recognize that certain mosquito-borne pathogens are circulating this time of year.  Please refer to the Homeowners Awareness Guide in the supporting documents section at the very bottom of this page for more information.

The Mosquito Control Program for the Town of Hudson, NH is scheduled to begin on Monday, August 25th.

Public Notice

Town of Hudson Public Health Mosquito Control Program

West Nile Virus and Eastern Equine Encephalitis

August 8, 2025

Applications to control larval mosquitos will begin on August 25, 2025 in the Town of Hudson. Larval mosquitoes will be controlled in areas such as salt marshes, cattail marshes, red maple swamps, woodland pools, flooded fields, roadside ditches, and flooded stormwater basins.  Mosquito larvae found in street and parking lot catch basins will also be controlled. With the advent of Zika Virus, mosquito populations will be monitored for associated vector mosquitoes.

The primary control agent will be a bacterium larvacide called Vectobac (BTI) or Vectolex (Bs). These environmentally- friendly biological controls are very specific to mosquito larvae and are used worldwide in mosquito control. The bacterium is naturally occurring and will not replicate in the environment. Applications to control larvae will continue as needed until December 15, 2025.  Control agents will only be applied where larvae are collected.

Town officials may decide to complete emergency adulticide (bifenthrin) spraying to parks, athletic fields, schools, and other public areas should a public health emergency dictate.
