Backflow Program
Date: 01/05/2026
Dear Hudson Water Utility Customer,
The Town of Hudson Water Utility is committed to protecting the public drinking water system and ensuring compliance with state backflow prevention requirements. As part of this effort, we are writing to inform you of an upcoming change to our backflow preventer testing program that will take effect on July 1, 2026. If you do not have a backflow preventer on your property, no action is required because this requirement does not apply to you.
Beginning on that date, customers will be responsible for arranging their own annual backflow preventer testing using a NH certified backflow prevention tester. Test results must then be submitted directly to the Hudson Water Utility for review and recordkeeping.
This change offers several important benefits to our customers:
- Greater convenience and flexibility
Customers may schedule testing at a time that works best for them, rather than coordinating around Town availability. This allows testing to be completed during regular business hours, evenings, or other preferred times, depending on the tester selected. - Expanded choice of certified testers
Customers may select any licensed and certified backflow tester, allowing them to compare availability, service options, and pricing. - Improved efficiency and timely compliance
Direct coordination between customers and testers often results in faster scheduling and fewer delays, helping ensure testing is completed on time each year. - Continued protection of the public water system
The Town will continue to review all submitted test reports and maintain official compliance records, ensuring that Hudson’s water supply remains safe and fully protected.
Please note that this change does not alter the requirement for annual backflow preventer testing; it only changes who performs the testing. Additional details regarding questions and answers are attached for your convenience.
We appreciate your cooperation and understanding as we make this transition, which is intended to provide greater flexibility for customers while maintaining the high standards of water quality and system protection in Hudson.
If you have any questions, please contact the Hudson Water Utility at 603-886-6002 or the Water Utility town website.
Sincerely,
Hudson Water Utility
