MOTOR VEHICLE FEE INCREASE

NH Division of Motor Vehicle Fee Increases Effective January 1, 2026

Earlier this year, the State of New Hampshire officially passed its biennial budget, which included a new statewide motor vehicle fee schedule that will take effect on January 1, 2026. A copy of the updated fee schedule is now available for residents to review here: New Fee Schedule

What Residents Need to Know

State Fees Increasing in 2026

Beginning January 1, 2026, state motor vehicle registration fees will increase. Local municipal fees will not increase, so only the state portion of your total registration cost will change.

January Renewal Notices Will Be Mailed Later Than Usual

Because the state fee schedule cannot be updated in the system until after January 1, renewal notices for January registrations will be mailed in early January rather than in December.

Renew Early if Your Registration Expires in January - March

Residents with motor vehicle registrations expiring in January, February or March may renew in December at the current fee structure before the increase takes effect January 1st

Any 2025 renewals completed late or after expiration, will be subject to the new 2026 state fees.

Online Renewals Temporarily Unavailable After December 28

Online renewals will be turned off from December 28 through January 2. During this time, affected residents must visit the Hudson Town Clerk/Tax Collector’s Office to complete their renewal in person.
